Some Term Insurance policies have a Terminal Illness Accelerated Benefit Rider, which pays out a portion of the death benefit if you were to develop a terminal illness likely to result in death within a certain period of time.  Typically within six to twelve months.  The rider is usually free of charge and can be elected after policy issue.  The maximum that eligible benefit is usually 50% of the policy death benefit up to a maximum depending upon which insurance company.  At the time the benefit is paid there will be a charge, but if you never use it there will be no charge.
